New look, new menu and new rooms - The Victoria re-opens

The Victoria is located on the coast road close to the north gate entrance to Holkham Hall. It is a 10-minute walk from the golden sands of Holkham beach and National Nature Reserve and is a perfect base for discovering the windswept coastline, seaside towns and villages on the north Norfolk coast. Coke of Norfolk, the great agriculturalist, built the hotel in 1838, the year after Victoria's accession to the throne. After being leased out for many years, it was taken back into Estate ownership in 2001.

Following an extensive refurbishment involving local craftsmen and designers, The Victoria re-opened in early May and has been transformed into an independent English inn offering great food, stylish accommodation and friendly service.

There are ten elegant bedrooms which have all been thoughtfully designed with the emphasis on comfort and quality. All the ensuite bathrooms are furnished to the highest standard and fitted with ‘drench’ showers and spacious baths and basins. We have five dog-friendly rooms, if you want to holiday with your favourite pet.

The bar and dining rooms offer a relaxed blend of style and comfort. In our two-rosette dining room our menu offers delicious locally sourced food, with a bold emphasis on freshness, simplicity and value. Venison, beef and game come from the Holkham Estate and we make a point of sourcing seasonally available ingredients from suppliers close to The Victoria – crabs from Cromer, mussels from Brancaster, cheeses from the nearby village of Wighton. There is a small selection of hand-picked wines to complement your meal, and our bar offers a selection of real ales including Adnams Southwold Bitter and Woodforde’s Wherry brewed locally.

Overlooking a pretty, leafy Georgian square (the Buttlands) in the seaside town of Wells-next-the-Sea, The Globe Inn provides a comfortable, affordable and family-friendly environment. Accredited with 4 stars and a Silver Award by Enjoy England, it is a great base for a break, or an ideal spot for a pint of local beer and some simple, home-cooked food.

There is a sun-filled courtyard in which to enjoy your summer drinks, restful lunch or evening meal. As a resident, it is the perfect spot to read your morning paper over breakfast.

The Globe Inn offers modern British pub food that reflects the area where its chefs live and work. In early summer, enjoy the tenderest asparagus and sweet early strawberries, the first sea bass of the year, spring lamb and vegetables, then tasty crab, samphire and the freshest mackerel straight out of the sea. While in autumn, try sea trout and local mussels. As autumn turns to winter, take comfort in warming winter food of wild game from Holkham Estate, roasted winter root vegetables and jugs of richly stocked gravy.

The Globe's kitchen also caters for little appetites, making homemade dishes such as little fish and chips and handmade beefburger. Any special dietary requirements can be accommodated given some notice. There is also a small dining room, which is available for private parties of up to 16.

We open daily for breakfast for non-residents from 8am to 10am, lunchtime from 12noon to 2.30pm and food is served in the evenings from 6.30pm until 9pm. In addition to the main lunch and dinner menus,

sandwiches are available at lunchtimes and  traditional roast is offered on Sundays. The Inn is well known for its Steak Night every Wednesday, when diners can choose from a selection of delicious steaks.
