Real Wedding | Ellie and George
August 28, 2019 | Weddings and celebrations | 5 minute read
With a Mum who is a marriage registrar at Holkham and a love of Holkham Beach, getting married at Holkham Hall felt like the perfect place for George and Ellie to get married. Read on to hear about their special wedding day.
Ellie says:
George and I met in our local pub in Fulham, London. He walked in with his (now ours!) black pug Boko and the rest his history. It was love at first sight.
He had planned to propose in the woods by Holkham Beach; our favourite place. However, to make the experience even more British, bright sunshine turned into an utter downpour and so the engagement was moved to the following week in Santorini, August 2018. The proposal was a complete surprise! We had been at the beach all day and I kept pestering George about where we were going for supper. Little did I know what was coming. We were staying at the wonderful Cape 9 Villas on the south of Santorini, and the staff were all in on the secret too. It was incredibly special. And, after a few minutes of being utterly speechless (I am never speechless), I said yes.
I was brought up just outside Holt and Holkham always been one of my favourite beaches and places., so it really was incredibly special to get married there.
We wanted quite a traditional and classic theme, with pastel colours running through it and little touches of our personality. Our guest book was a tree cut into a big piece of wood, where everyone put their fingerprints and names on. We had our table plan cards hanging off a blossom tree, surrounded by tea lights – lots of lanterns and fairy lights were a must for our day.
The wedding celebrations began two days before our ceremony when we all got together as two families. On the day before, we had separate meals with our ushers and bridesmaids too.
On the morning of our wedding, George and I got ready 100 metres away from each other at The Victoria Inn, so there was no danger of bumping into each other! I went down to the Marble Hall in a beautifully decorated Land Rover, with my Dad, driven by one my great friends.
I wore a beautiful wedding dress and veil from Pronovias. I thought about the venue and the beautiful Marble Hall and knew I needed to have a long train. George wore a beautiful Morning Suit from Hackett, with ties from Reef Knots, which looked brilliant!
After the ceremony in the utterly stunning Marble Hall we had some photographs with our amazing photographer, Haj.
The reception was at the Lady Elizabeth Wing. We were blessed with fantastic weather so had games on the lawn outside, delicious canapés and lots of champagne. We sat down to a beautiful dinner of salmon, followed by a trio of puddings and the BEST cheese board we have ever seen. All washed down with delicious wine.
Ed Raison and Crew worked their way through some eighties classics. I had heard the band at a best friend’s wedding and they really are superb. George and I danced to For Your Babies by Simply Red followed by You To Me Are Everything by The Real Thing – it was just brilliant.
For me, the best part of the wedding day was having everyone that we adore all in the same place together was really very special. It was the best day ever and we are so grateful to Holkham and all of our wonderful suppliers for everything.
