Shepherd huts at The Victoria: Progress so far
January 29, 2025 | The Victoria | 4 minute read
Some of our team headed to Lincolnshire earlier this month to see the progress on our four shepherd huts, and they’re coming on well! We visited on a bright winter’s morning, and the sunlight poured into the huts!
Our shepherd huts are being built by family-run business Lincolnshire Shepherd Huts. Karly and Jamie started their business in 2018 and, together with their small team, are building us four beautiful bespoke huts that are now open for bookings, with stays starting in late April.
All the huts are hand built on-site, from cutting the timber, to welding, to fitting the units inside, so it was great to go to the site and see all this going on.
The four huts are at various stages of completion, so we could see how the huts progress from superstructure to an almost finished interior. The first hut is almost complete, the second and third are undergoing internal fit out, and the chassis is built for the final hut.
The huts are fully insulated from floor to ceiling, ensuring you can stay cosy in the winter and cool in the summer. The insulation used is earth wool, an eco-friendly material that’s actually manufactured from recycled glass bottles and sand.
The huts will be beautiful inside: a gorgeous base to wake up in before and return to after a day out exploring the Norfolk coast and countryside.
We’re working with local designer, Johanna Tennant (who also helped design the interiors of The Victoria and Ancient House) to achieve this.
“I’m delighted to be working with Ben and his team again on this exciting new project,” Johanna said. “I’ll be working with a colour palette inspired by the hues found within the Holkham National Nature Reserve, to create four individual interiors offering guests a comfortable and relaxing space to stay.”
Our huts benefit from a longer chassis than most, meaning there will be more room to enjoy when you stay. Within each hut, there’ll be a kitchen, bathroom and open-plan lounge area and bedroom space.
The bathroom features a large shower with a rainshower head, a beautiful sink and vanity unit and a traditional toilet.
The huts are The Victoria’s first self-catering accommodation. In the kitchen, you’ll find stunning slate worktops and an oak breakfast bar which will offer meadow views. A butler’s sink, induction hob, oven and fridge freezer will make cooking during your break a breeze. You’re welcome to dine at The Victoria too (and of course, there are plenty of cafés and restaurants in nearby Wells-next-the-Sea and Burnham Market). The huts can be booked fully self-catered or on a bed and breakfast package.
Your bed will have space for suitcases and holdalls to be stored underneath. Even more excitingly, there’s a larger space underneath created as a dog den, so your furry friends can come along on holiday with you and benefit from the numerous dog walks in the area.
