Jane Gooderham
Cafe Supervisor
I joined the Holkham team in March 2010, working in the Stables Cafe which is now the Courtyard Cafe.
I have worked in many of the Holkham cafes over the years, including the Rose Garden which is now Ancient House – accommodation at The Victoria.
Whilst the Stables Cafe was being refurbished, I worked in the pop up cafe which was situated by the front of the Hall in a marquee.
Now, I am mainly based at the Courtyard Cafe, but I do occasionally work at The Lookout and the Beach Cafe.
I started my job at Holkham as a general cafe assistant before being promoted to cafe supervisor in 2012.
What makes Holkham a great place to work?
Everyone is very friendly. It’s great when we all get together after a busy summer and enjoy a social evening in front of the cricket pavilion.
What does your role entail?
My role consists of the day to day running of the cafes, ensuring they are clean and well stocked up. As a supervisor, I am also responsible for managing staff, cashing up at the end of the day, placing stock orders and locking up.
Every day can be very different; depending on the time of year, the cafe can be very busy and quite demanding, but I enjoy the fast pace and variety. Some days can be slightly different and could involve cooking for private shoot lunches, setting up lunch functions or serving Prosecco for the Candlelight Tours throughout December. I also help out behind the bar in the Lady Elizabeth Wing for weddings and functions, and over the winter months I help with the shoot dinner and drinks events in the Hall .
